The Girls of Mainely Running!
What have we been up to as of late? Well, among the usual work and family fun, we are attempting to train (once again) for the Sugarloaf Marathon. I know this time around has been a bit of a struggle for all of us in terms of motivation and finding time to train. Over the past month, however, I tried to step it up a notch and at least do my long runs. Two weeks ago I was faced with a 16 mile run. 16 miles??? Sure, why not!
So the girls and I (Amy and Christine, along with running mates Katie, Casey, Kristy and Emilie) attempted to coordinate our run together. Emilie ended up doing 17 nearly solo miles (you go girl!) the day before, Christine had to work and Kristy was out temporarily with an injury, which left four of us to give it a go. We agreed to meet at my house at 6am to being the 16 mile trek.
My alarm went off at 5am. It was dark. I had a nice, warm golden retriever curled up next to me in bed. The forecast was for rain. Need I say more?
Despite my comfortable surroundings I hurried to throw on some clothes and grab a banana. I was really hoping this run would prove to be better then the previous week, where I wanted to (and did) throw in the towel at 13.75 miles, despite my hope of doing 15 (thank you again, Kristy, for being so understanding).
After about 8 miles Casey and Katie had to go, which left Amy and I to finish the last 8. Guess who drove up behind us honking her horn at about mile 10?

Having just worked all night, Christine was kind enough to hunt us down and cheer us on. And yes, she does look that good after working all night. I'm jealous!
After offering us refueling snacks and a toothbrush, she headed home for a much needed break. Amy and I continued on our run, thankful when we finally hit that 16 mile mark. Another week down, only six weeks to go!
