Wednesday Wisdom and a Race Recap

I was reminded of how much I identify with this during last Saturday's Race the Runways Half Marathon in Brunswick, Maine.

Since the fall, I've dealt with runner's knee and really put training for any races on the back burner. Other than our Friday Mainely Running runs and 2 weekend runs I hadn't actually run ~ really run ~ since finishing the Maine Half Marathon in October.

It was certainly with whimsy then that I decided to "Race the Runways", a race I'd registered for quite some time ago. It turned out that Jen couldn't make the trip with us to Brunswick, but Amy (steadfast as ever) was in it to win it so to speak. So was our friend, Casey. I didn't want to let either of them down so Race the Runways it was.

It's true what they say about only regretting the work outs you don't do. I really would have missed out had I chosen to skip that race. Amy, Casey and I ran the entire race together and I enjoyed every bit of our time on that runway.

I enjoyed catching up, commiserating and most of all celebrating what an incredible run Amy had. Casey and I were so proud of her. I was reminded of how much I enjoy sharing in the accomplishment's of others and watching others reap the benefits of their training. I was reminded of how Mainely Running came to be and of what we hoped to accomplish with this site, our classes and our mentoring. I was reminded of how important it is to smile and how contagious our enthusiasm can be! Volunteer after volunteer commented on how much fun we looked like we were having and how much they appreciated our smiles.

If you've been toying with the idea of registering for a race, we challenge you to go for it. You won't regret it and you just may be surprised who you motivate and inspire along the way ~ just be sure to smile!
A pic from Jen @ Running with the Girls who cheered us into the finish after getting an incredible PR!
